This March, LeadOhr, the young professionals division of Migdal Ohr, hosted “Bring them Hope”, a sold-out Shabbat dinner at the Moises Safra Center in Manhattan to raise funds and awareness about underprivileged children in Israel.
The event was attended by 220 young professionals with a waitlist of over 30 people. It progressed from a vibrant cocktail hour to an inspirational, gourmet sit-down dinner themed with Israeli flags and hostage ribbons - a reminder of those who are not able to enjoy Shabbat the way that we were. Beyond another social event, “Bring Them Hope” gave attendants a tremendous boost of Jewish pride and solidarity with Israel.
Together, we raised over $33,000 to support orphaned and underprivileged children at Migdal Ohr and are continuing to make a huge difference in the lives of vulnerable children who are looking to us for their support. At a time when Jewish identity and support for Israel matter more than ever, participants stood strong, united, and proud.
These funds are already transforming the lives of thousands of children who rely on Migdal Ohr for daily meals, quality education, clothing, housing, and, most importantly, a sense of love and belonging.
Director of Development, Mickey Flaumenhaft, talked about his time in Gaza as a reservist and the powerful unity of the soldiers and friends who were willing to give everything to protect and maintain the sovereignty of the Jewish People in Israel. “We’re here eating this delicious food, and right now, my friends are eating out of tin cans and sleeping on the floor!” Mickey told everyone. “We always have to remember that we’re here for them and they are out there fighting for us.”
Later in the evening, Committee Member Ellin Gurvitch spoke and beautifully expressed that, “Migdal Ohr isn’t just another Jewish organization—it’s a lifeline, a community, and a family for thousands of orphaned and at-risk children in Israel. And it’s also a community for us!”
We want to thank Jonathan Hanus and the entire Event Committee—including Aaron Zelikovich, Danielle Stiefel, Ellin Gurvitch, Emma Teitelbaum, Hudis Moskowitz, Lily Sands, Shaje Weiss, Michele Freund, Lisa Akrish, Tamara Heller, Rick Saxe, Stephaine Soifer, Julia Zuckerman, Jordana Rehany, Will Eisler, Chloe Brendlinger, Laura Brown, Melissa Klein, Avital Tenenbaum, Elina Sigal, and Chani Bernstein—for their dedication and hard work in making this event such a tremendous success.
You are the future of Migdal Ohr and the ones who are going to carry the torch for generations to come!
